Magic Moments > 1988 > The 1988 Season Finale Episode 876

Written by Ray Kolle, Directed by Kendal Flanagan

Mark puts on some music and Jane comes out from the bedroom. He tells her she looks amazing and reminds her of when they first met. He then produces a ring, tells her he loves her and asks her to marry him…

Jane is shocked and doesn’t know what to say. She tells him that she wasn’t expecting this so soon, and he reminds her that he’s the kind of guy who knows what he wants and goes straight after it. She sits down and is about to tell him, when he asks if she’s going to say ‘no’. She tells him that she isn’t, but she really needs some time to think things over before giving her answer. He tells her that he’s a patient guy, then tells her she has 24 hours. She tells him she’ll give him an answer asap, and he agrees, as long as the answer is yes.

At number 24, Madge and Harold are wrapping up some presents to send up to Scott and Charlene in Brisbane. Madge is upset that she won’t see them, but Harold mentions that they’ll be able to speak to them over the phone. Harold wishes he knew where Kerry and her baby were, so he could send them some presents. Madge reminds him that he can still play Santa to the kids at Lassiter’s tomorrow. Henry comes in, looking depressed and he’s confused about why Bronwyn was so upset with him earlier. Madge and Harold encourage him to go and talk to her, but he’s worried he’ll end up with a black eye.

At number 32, Joe and Toby get home from the movies and Joe sends his son off to bed. Toby doesn’t want to go, so Joe lets him open the present that arrived from Noelene, but Toby’s disappointed to find that she’s sent him some clothes. Joe promises him that Santa will bring him something better.

..

At number 28, Des and Bronwyn have just finished putting up the tree and decorations and Henry is watching, telling them it looks great. Henry is impressed to hear that Bronwyn made some of the decorations herself. Des leaves, so Henry asks Bron if they can sort things out and get back together for Christmas. She tells him that she wasn’t impressed with his stunt, making her think he was dying. He tells her that it was just a misunderstanding and that he had hoped that they’d be together forever, and that they shouldn’t throw it away. She says that it has more to do with him not trusting her and it hurt her.

The next morning, Jane is heading off to work and Joe tells her about the clothes Noelene sent for Toby. She asks if he’s taking Toby to see Santa, but Joe says that Toby would recognise Harold and be disappointed. Jane tells him that Harold looks very convincing, so Joe agrees to take Toby. Joe then tells Jane that Mark is perfect for her and, if he ever proposes, she should accept. Jane says that he’s done just that, but she doesn’t want to turn into her mother and fall in love with Mark’s money. Joe says that she shouldn’t let this opportunity pass her by.

..

At the Coffee Shop, Harold is setting up and having trouble with his back, when Madge comes in with Jim and they remind him about the gathering at the Robinson place later. Sharon comes out of the kitchen, asking if she can help with the party as she wants to do something special to thank everyone in Ramsay Street for accepting her and Bronwyn. Madge then tries to help Harold and Edie appears, wishing she could help with the party too. Harold is in a lot of pain, so Madge tells him that he can’t be Santa and will have to phone Paul. Harold wonders where they’ll get a replacement at such short notice, while Edie looks pensive…

At the office, Gail is trying to help Jane make her mind up. She says that it all boils down to whether she loves Mark. Jane says that she thinks she does, infact, she knows she does. Gail asks what the problem is, and Jane says that their backgrounds are so different. Gail tells her that there are no guarantees in anything, so she might have to take a chance if she wants to be happy.

..

At number 26, Todd, Lucy and Nick are putting up the tree. Nick is reminded of his grandma when he sees the home-made decorations and says that he misses her, as she was all the family he had. Lucy tells him that he’s part of the Robinson family now. Jim gets home, and Lucy says that Bev’s taken Katie to see Santa at Lassiter’s.

At Lassiter’s, Katie is listing all of the things she wants from Santa, who gives her and present and says he’ll see what he can do. Bev and Katie walk off and Bev asks Paul who Santa is – he says that it’s Mrs Chubb, as she was the only replacement they could get at such short notice. Katie shows her present to Paul and Bev and says that she was selfish to ask for so many presents from Santa, when she should have asked for Helen to be better. Bev tells her that Helen will be fine and would want them all to have a wonderful Christmas. Meanwhile, Des and Jamie are finishing up with Santa, when Joe and Toby arrive. Joe thinks it’s Harold and starts pulling his beard and tickling his tummy, before sitting on his knee. Edie tells him to get off her and Joe quickly gets off and asks Sharon what’s going on. She tells him that Aunt Edie stepped in at the last minute…

At number 32, Joe, Jane and Mark are laughing about the mix-up with Edie. Joe is worried that Edie might have thought he was flirting with her, but Jane thinks it’s pretty unlikely. Jane goes off to get some Christmas presents to take to number 26, and Joe congratulates Mark on proposing to Jane. Joe mentions that there are a million reasons for her to marry him, then realises what he’s said and says that he’s not referring to Mark’s money. Toby comes back with Jane, he’s wearing his new clothes and he asks Joe when his mum is coming. Joe says that it’ll be when it suits her. Jane tells Toby that he should apologise to Katie for eating garlic before the school play.

At number 26, everyone is gathered for the early Christmas party for Todd and Katie. Des is telling Gail that he’s spent a fortune on Jamie and she says that she and Paul will probably be on a tight budget for the rest of their lives. Paul asks her to lay off, at least for Christmas. Bronwyn comes over and takes Jamie, saying that Sharon’s running late and being very mysterious. Henry comes over when he sees Bron standing under the mistletoe and leans over to kiss her, but kisses Jamie instead. Joe, Jane, Mark and Toby then arrive, and Joe is embarrassed when he sees Edie. Toby goes over to apologise to Katie and she says it’s alright, then she kisses him and he runs out of the house.

In the garden, Joe catches up with Toby and asks him why he ran off. Toby says that Katie was all wet, but Joe tells him that one day he’ll enjoy kissing girls. Toby asks when his mum will be coming and Joe says that it’ll be after Christmas. Toby says that he doesn’t want to go, he wants to stay with his dad. Joe hugs him and says that he’ll see what he can do. They head back in, as Jane and Mark come outside. Mark tells her that he can’t bear the suspense much longer and needs an answer…

Inside the house, Madge is talking about how much she’s missing Scott and Charlene, so Harold suggests that they take a quick trip up there over the holidays. Sharon then appears with Bouncer pulling a sleigh full of presents for everyone. She hands one to Nick, who tells Henry that he’s glad he’s not with her any longer. She then gives a gift to Lucy and apologises for pushing her in the pool. Jane and Mark come back in and Mark asks if he can make an announcement – Jane has agreed to be his wife. Everyone is thrilled, but Des looks a bit put out. Harold says that this would be a good time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and they all sing We Wish You A Merry Christmas.
