Written by Mithila Gupta, Directed by Chris Adshead and Jo O'Shaughnessy, Produced by Jason Herbison

Channel Eleven: 05/02/14, Channel 5: 19/02/14

Kyle decides to dump Kate, but she remains oblivious as he can’t work out how to tell her... Georgia tells Kyle that the baby doesn’t change things between them – they’re still broken up... Mason and Josh engage in an unedifying chest-beating competition - which results in disaster, as Josh plummets to the base of a cliff in an abseiling accident...

Amber, Mason and Imogen rush to the base of the cliff where Josh lies unconscious; Amber screams at him to wake up. Josh is breathing, and suddenly comes around – but it appears he’s in severe pain from landing on his back. Imogen tries to call an ambulance but there’s no mobile reception. Imogen goes to try and get a signal, while Mason runs back to the campsite for help. Amber tries to get Josh to stay awake, but his consciousness is drifting again. His eyelids close, despite Amber’s begging. Imogen returns, having been unable to get a signal, and joins the chorus of screaming for Josh to wake up.

..

Mason races through the bush, trying to get a signal on his phone, but failing.

Mason arrives back at the campsite, and who should he encounter dragging a canoe out of the lake but Mark Brennan. Mason asks what he's doing there, and Brennan replies “I am about to be knocked over by some idiot kid." Mason asks Brennan if he knows if there is a ranger around the area, Brennan tells Mason he doesn’t know and asks what’s happened. Mason frantically explains Josh’s accident, Brennan tells Mason that he has a satellite phone on him, and he grabs it from his bag before following Mason back into the bush.

..

Back in Erinsborough, Brad arrives at Lassiter's and tells Terese he would like to book a room for him and his wife! They flirtatiously talk about one another in the third person as Brad tries his utmost to tempt her upstairs. Terese checks to see if there are any vacancies.

Josh regains consciousness again, just as Mason and Brennan arrive back at the accident site. They’ve called for help and there’s a chopper on its way. Brennan asks Josh what his name is, and what day it is, which he answers successfully – but he’s in a lot of pain, and is struggling to move his arm. Brennan tells him to stay still, as the helicopter appears overhead.

..

In Lassiter’s reception Brad and Terese are still being flirty with each other when there’s an incoming call from Imogen’s mobile. In fact it’s Amber ringing, and she tells them the bad news about Josh.

At Erinsborough Hospital, Brad and Terese have already arrived as Josh is wheeled in on a stretcher. Karl is on hand to explain that he’s injured his back and neck, but that they need to do x-rays and scans to determine the extent. Terese asks if they can see Josh, however Karl tells them that he will let them know as soon as they're done, and Josh is then wheeled into an examination room.

..

In Harold’s Store, Lauren takes a call from Amber, updating her on the situation with Josh. Kate is at the counter and asks how Amber is; Lauren tells her that Amber is beside herself and Mason is in shock. She asks Lauren if she knows who it was that helped them, but Lauren replies that it was just ‘some guy who happened to be there’ and mentions that Brad and Terese must be going through hell. Lauren is planning on heading to the hospital when Margie arrives to take over her shift, and Kate offers to go with her – but Lauren tells Kate it might be best for her to wait until later, as there will be lots of people there hanging around.

Imogen, Amber and Mason rush in to the hospital, while Brennan walks in behind them. Imogen asks about Josh but Brad has no news yet. Brad wants to know what on earth happened in the bush, and why Josh was abseiling in the first place. Imogen informs Brad that she and Mason were the ones doing it first - Brad asks whose idea it was. Mason admits it was his idea, and Brad lays into him, demanding to know what he was thinking. Brennan, who is lingering around, intervenes, saying it was an accident and not Mason’s fault, but in doing so he reveals that nobody was supervising the session except Mason, who has abseiled before. Brad blames an apologetic Mason for the entire situation.

..

Later, Mason asks Brennan of his time running an abseiling school in the Blue Mountains, desperate to know how Josh could have suddenly fallen like that. Mason can’t get his head around what went wrong - Brennan asks if anything unusual happened moments before he fell. Mason informs Brennan it all happened too fast. but insists that he knows how to set up a rig, though admits he’s never been an instructor, and that he and Josh were arguing a little prior to the accident. Mason asks Brennan if he is going to be in trouble, Brennan does not answer, so Mason asks again. Brennan tells Mason that it’s not really his place to say, he doesn’t want to get involved, all he is sticking around for is to make sure Josh is okay. Mason wonders why Brennan isn’t sticking around to catch up with Kate, but Brennan doesn’t see much point. Mason admits to Brennan that his own relationship with Kate never recovered after the last time Brennan was in town, then he goes to look for Amber to see if there’s any news on Josh.

At number 26, Kyle tells Sheila about a call he’s just received from Chris, revealing that Georgia has checked herself out of the hospital. Kyle tells Sheila that Georgia won’t let him be there for her, and didn’t even tell him she was pregnant. Kyle tells Sheila that Georgia knows exactly what he went through with his dad, that he wasn’t around when he was growing up, and he hated it. Kyle doesn’t want to be like his dad, He wants to do things right from the start, and that means being there for everything but if Georgia keeps pushing him away like this, he’s going to miss it all. Sheila tells Kyle that Georgia knows deep down he’ll be a great dad, but at the moment she’s just protecting herself from being hurt, given Kyle is moving on with Kate. Kyle admits he’s been meaning to break up with Kate but just hasn’t found the right time, as they’ll never be more than friends. Kyle declares to Sheila that he loves Georgia and she’s the only one he wants to be with. Sheila tells Kyle that Kate deserves to know how he feels.

..

At Paul’s penthouse, Paul pretends to take an interest in the Willises, but really he’s just worried about how Terese’s assistant will cope with the additional workload if she’s not around. Kate dryly promises to pass on Paul’s regards when she goes to the hospital later to lend her support. Conversation moves to Kyle: Kate admits that he’s been busy lately. Paul asks Kate what Kyle has been doing, and she admits that she does not know - Paul has a concerned look on his face. Kate picks up on this and tells him not to look at her with pity in his eyes. Paul tells Kate that he is just concerned - Kate then gets a message from Kyle, saying he wants to meet, and she’s all happy again, despite Paul’s uncertainty. Kate decides to ask Kyle to meet her here, deciding her hospital visit can wait.

Terese and Brad are at Josh’s bedside when Amber comes in. Terese suggests Amber comes back later, but Josh tells Amber to stay. Karl arrives soon after with the results of the scans: Josh is suffering from mild concussion, and a fractured thoracic vertebra, but it won’t affect his spinal cord. He also has a broken arm and a tear in his shoulder, which will require internal fixation surgery to repair. Brad asks if Josh will be able to swim competitively. Karl informs Brad that it’s difficult to know until after the surgery, and says there’s an orthopaedic surgeon on staff who could operate in hours, but Brad insists that they need a proper sports surgeon to repair the damage. Karl warns this could take quite a while, and Terese is keen on getting Josh into surgery as soon as possible but Josh agrees with Brad that they should wait for a sports surgeon, despite the pain he’s in. Terese looks annoyed with Brad.

..

Kyle arrives to see Kate at the penthouse, and she proudly announces that they have the place to themselves. Kyle, however, tells Kate to sit down and gets straight to the point and informs Kate that he really likes her, he thinks she’s great, but them being together doesn’t feel right. Kate admits to Kyle that they’ve had a pretty rough start. Kyle comments that it shouldn’t be this hard, and although they’ve had fun together, it’s not really clicking for him. She replies that they haven’t been together long enough to judge, but Kyle disagrees. Kate tells Kyle that it’s way too early to be making a decision like this. However, Kyle informs Kate that he is sorry, she is such a great girl, but he is in love with Georgia and always will be. Kate, not taking the news very well, asks Kyle to leave, and she tears up as he leaves.

Lauren joins Amber, Imogen, Mason and Brennan in the waiting room at the hospital, where Amber is blaming Mason for Josh’s accident. Imogen defends Mason, but Amber insists Mason was egging Josh on. Brad comes in and informs everyone that they’re still waiting on news on the sports surgeon. Brad thanks Brennan for all his help, but when he learns Brennan used to run an abseiling school, he tries to probe him for information on what might have gone wrong. Brennan remains tight-lipped, and the others say they didn’t see anything either. Imogen, Amber and Lauren go in to see Josh, and Brad invites Brennan to join them but Brennan tells Brad he has to go. Brad follows the others in to see Josh. Before Brennan leaves, he asks Mason if he’s sure he did everything right with the abseiling equipment. Mason says that he thinks he did, and Brennan says that he'll need to be sure about it.

..

At the penthouse, Paul enters - Kate reveals to her uncle that Kyle has dumped her, and she’s kicking herself for being such an idiot. Paul tries to comfort Kate, but she is adamant that her life is a complete mess. Kate decides to go to the hospital to take some flowers for Josh, but bursts into tears before she can leave the apartment – and cries on Paul’s shoulder.

Back at Erinsborough Hospital, Karl tells the Willises that the sports surgeon can’t get here until tomorrow morning, which means Josh will be in pain overnight. Terese is unhappy about this, but Brad is adamant that waiting one night could save Josh’s swimming career. Terese thinks that Brad is bullying Josh into this, though Josh says that's not the case. Brad double checks that Josh is sure about waiting, which he is. Terese and Brad go off to sign some forms with Karl, and Amber tells Josh she’d like to stay the night at the hospital. However, Josh suddenly gets angry and tells her he doesn’t want her here. Josh tells Amber to go - she quietly leaves and Josh looks distressed.

..

..

Outside in the corridor, Brennan has returned to drop off Imogen’s bag, which she left in his car. He asks Imogen to pass his regards to Josh, and is about to leave – but at this moment Kate wanders in, with her bunch of flowers, and walks right into Brennan.
