Magic Moments > 2014 > Kathy's Confession: Part One Episode 6836

Written by Alexa Wyatt, Directed by Scott Major, Produced by Jason Herbison

Channel Eleven: 10/03/14, Channel 5: 24/03/14

Amber commenting that she is dating Jekyll and Hyde... Amber discovering Josh’s painkillers... Josh pleading that Amber keeps quiet about the painkillers... Kyle suggesting that they have a memorial service for the baby... Lauren telling Georgia about losing her baby... Lauren calling her mum to say she is going to tell Matt and Brad about her baby...

On Ramsay Street, Georgia thanks Lauren for the trifle she made and the words she said to her last week and offers herself as a listener if Lauren wishes to talk about her loss. Lauren then sees a taxi pull up to her driveway – it’s her mum Kathy, and Lauren looks very happy to see her.

..

..

Lauren assists her mum, carrying in her luggage and presents in to the kitchen of number 32. Lauren comments that if she’d known about the visit they’d have re-organised their schedules. Amber and Bailey spot their grandma and rush to hug her, Kathy hands them their presents - brand new iPads! They both thank her and head off, they pass Lou on the way to their rooms and he does a double take at his ex-wife. Lou says “Oh streuth, I've died and gone to hell”. Kathy replies by saying “You look very much alive to me Louis - although gravity’s taken its toll”. The pair starts squabbling and Lou asks if he can assist in taking in any more of her belonging, “like your broomstick,” Lauren intervenes and tells Lou that her mum is going to be staying at the house. Lauren mentions to Kathy that she didn’t say she was coming down to visit, and her mum replies that after the phone call they had she thought it would be a good idea. Lauren informs her mum that she has to get to work and asks if she wishes to come - Kathy agrees.

In Harold’s, Kathy and Lauren discuss the phone call. Lauren is worried that Brad will judge her for not telling him, and that Matt will be upset. Lauren admits that she has to do it though. Kathy, however, feels that after all this time, it should be kept quiet.

..

At the hospital, Amber calls by to ask Karl for some advice about the pills she found Josh with, but without mentioning his name. Karl asks for more information and Amber informs him that it’s some sort of painkiller. Karl takes Amber into his room and they discuss the issue further. Karl dispels the myth that all traces will be gone from their system and that he could be in real trouble, Karl also mentions possible adverse effects that may not have appeared yet, which could also last longer. Karl stops the pretence and tells Amber that they both know who they are talking about. Amber asks Karl “What do I do?” Karl’s reply is that he can't do anything without seeing Josh and adds that if she really cares for him then she needs to tell his family.

Susan calls over to number 30 and can't help but notice that Georgia is staring at the rose bush Kyle brought over. Georgia unloads that she isn't amused at him wanting to have a memorial service as she feels he is hijacking how she’s supposed to be dealing with things. Georgia tells Susan that this is his way, but it’s not necessarily hers. Susan suggests that it might be a good to hold a memorial service as it’s a way to deal with feelings and move on. Susan mentions that she is concerned about Kyle as she hasn’t see him at work and thinks he’s not left the house either. “I had no idea,” Georgia replies looking concerned and confirms to Susan that she hasn’t spoken to him about this but guesses it’s probably time that she did.

In Charlie's, Sheila and Kathy are acquainting themselves to each other and their mutual “hatred” of Lou when the man in question enters the bar. Lou tells Sheila to take no notice of anything Kathy says about him, and then he talks to Kathy and says to her to ignore everything Sheila says. Lou then asks Kathy if she has to be everywhere he is and is told to stop following her! Kathy leaves, telling Sheila it was nice to meet her. Lou and Bailey sit down and Sheila comments that he is so grumpy and suggests it might have something to do with letting a woman like Kathy get away. Lou tells them both that he wished he done it sooner. Bailey comments that Lou is being rather harsh. Lou warns Bailey not to repeat his mistakes and says “this is what happens when you marry the second woman you fall in love with.” Sheila enquires what happened to the first, Lou tells her to stop stickybeaking and promptly leaves them to it and Bailey starts asking him questions about his marriage to Kathy, and enquires how they can still be angry at each other after all these years. Eventually Lou explains why – she refused to talk to him at his parents' wedding! “That's it?!” Bailey asks and Lou adds that “it was our daughter’s wedding and she couldn’t let bygones be bygones for one day.” Bailey still doesn't believe him and Lou’s reply is that he tried to warn him what she was like!

In the Lassiter's Complex, Amber sits, weighing up whether she should tell Brad or not.

..

Josh is at the gym and he thinks that Amber has come to see him when he spots her walking in the door. He asks that she gives him 10 minutes to finish off before they go get some lunch. Thinking quickly on her feet, she knocks back the lunch offer citing schoolwork and only popped in to see how he was going. “Relax,” he replies and explains that while his shoulder is hurting, he’s only taking the meds Karl prescribed and is working through the pain but reassures her that he is handling it. Josh tells Amber that it’s all good; he’s got her looking out for him. Amber agrees, telling Josh that’s exactly what she is doing. Amber says to Josh “You know that I love you and I hope you remember that no matter what.” Josh tells Amber he does. Brad interrupts their chat to tell Josh he’s done enough and to hit the shower, and once Josh has gone, Amber tells Brad that there is something she needs to talk to him about.

Brad, Terese and Josh are seeing Karl at the hospital. Josh explains that he doesn't have any of the dodgy meds left as he washed them down the sink, so Karl is going to arrange for tests to be done to discover what it was exactly that he took. He’s also going to get a scan of the shoulder to see if there is any damage caused by overworking when he was taking the painkillers. Brad can't believe how stupid his son has been, especially given that he’s due a medical for the team and like earlier, Karl dismisses the myth that they'll be gone from Josh’s system. Brad asks Josh why he took them. Josh tells Brad quite sternly that he had to stay on the team and comments that his shoulder hurts so much that he was losing fitness. He didn’t pace himself like he said, he overdid it and he hurt himself again but he couldn’t stop training so he needed something to dull the pain. He now knows how stupid it was. Brad agrees and tells Josh that it’s a bit too late to realise that now. Josh agrees with Brad and quite sternly tells him that he knows and he should never have gone abseiling in the first place. He should never have pushed himself after he got injured and he should never have taken the pills. Josh continues that he should never have done any of it but giving up on swimming is not an option, it is who he is and it’s what he’s worked towards his entire life, without swimming he has nothing, he is nothing.

..

Kyle enters number 30, looking pretty dishevelled and goes all quiet when Georgia brings up Susan saying he’d not been into work. She walks round to where the rose bush is and thanks him for it, saying that she thinks it would be a lovely idea to have a ceremony and plant it. Kyle seems a bit taken aback after hearing that. Kyle asks her when they should do it, and Georgia suggests to Kyle that they do it today.

At the Willis house, Josh says to Amber “I don’t want to see you,” when he answers the door. Amber enters the house regardless and reminds Josh of what they agreed earlier (that they’d love each other no matter what) but it looks like dobbing is an exception! Amber tries to explain why she did it but Josh is not listening and tries to blame her for being out of the games. Amber tells Josh that she didn’t make him take them. Josh still thinks that he’d have been clean in time for the medical and Amber points out that he doesn't know that for sure. “You never gave me the chance,” is Josh’s comeback and tells Amber if the tests the hospital run show banned substances then he won't be allowed to compete. Amber tearfully points out “You should have thought of that before you took them in the first place,” However Josh is not listening and asks why she didn’t trust him when he said he’d stopped taking them. Amber replies that she knew how much pain he’d been in but Josh can’t accept that and tells Amber again he thinks it’s because she doesn't trust him. Amber tells Josh that this was never the way to fix it. Josh quite sternly tells Amber that neither was telling his dad and if this was her idea of love and support then he can do without it. Josh proclaims that he will never ever, ever, forgive her for this. “GET OUT,” he yells at a crying Amber as he makes his way upstairs.

..

At number 32, Bailey and Kathy are on the iPad looking for a restaurant the whole family can go to for dinner, Bailey comments that gramps won’t go for an Indian, Kathy replies that he is not invited. Bailey wonders why his grandparents are bickering and mentions what Lou said to him, but she is quick to say that it’s him who didn’t speak to her. Lauren arrives home and sends Bailey off to clean his room and when Lauren hears the discussion of finding somewhere to go for dinner, Lauren suggests to her mum that she takes the kids and Lou out so she can talk to Matt then Brad. Kathy asks Lauren what good would come of that. Lauren explains that both men deserve to know but Kathy doesn't think she should rock the boat as she has a good marriage, “It’s not a good marriage if I'm lying to him, mum,” Lauren responds. Kathy comments that she understands Brad being around brings it all back to her but Lauren replies that it was Georgia losing her baby that brought back her memories. Their chat about it is curtailed when a very upset Amber arrives home and they both comfort her after she briefly says why she’s upset.

Later, Bailey drags his Grandfather in to see his Grandma but Lou is more taken by the fact she’s found her broomstick! Kathy is sweeping the kitchen floor and threatens to put it somewhere painful if he continues! Bailey asks them both if they have any idea how ridiculous they are being. This is met by silence and when he brings up his parents' wedding, both deny giving the other the cold shoulder but it eventually emerges that Lou didn’t recognise Kathy giving him a programme because she was wearing a hat. Lou declares to Kathy that he hated her as much as she hates him. Kathy tells Lou that for the record, she didn’t hate him… she just couldn’t live with him. Lou tells Kathy that it was the same for him. Bailey makes a retreat as the pair seem to be getting on much better.

..

In the backyard of number 30, Kyle and Georgia are joined by Susan, Sheila, Callum, Sonya and Toadie for the very emotional memorial service, they all join hands and Georgia starts to speak; “All of the friends and family gathered here today would have been a big part of your life but sadly today we have to say goodbye. Whenever we’re in this special place, whenever we see this rose, we’ll remember you. You will always be with us”. Kyle continues by saying “It would have been so good to meet you but I reckon I got a fair idea of what you would have been like. Always on the go, into everything, running around the backyard with Bossy always getting into trouble, like me”. Kyle then throws his single red rose and a little Carlton football before the others put their red roses and mementoes in too, as Georgia speaks again “I wish that I could have had the chance to know you, to travel through life with you, to be with you every single step of the way but even though you can't be by my side, I will always carry you with me in my heart cos you are my precious baby and I love you so much”.

Inside number 30, both Kyle and Georgia thank each other for the day, Kyle suggests that they go for coffee and spend some time together. Kyle is shocked to hear Georgia turning him down because she is going back to work. Georgia explains that the ceremony was so they could go forward; Georgia suggests to Kyle that staying at home isn't going to do any good. “I know,” he replies and Georgia adds that it’s not easy for her either but she’s trying to get back to some sense of normality and suggests he does the same too!

..

..

At number 32, Kathy tries to tempt Lauren into joining her for dinner but Lauren’s insistent she wants to tell Matt so she can go back to where she lost the baby and close that chapter of her life - and without him knowing, she can't do that. Kathy says to Lauren “Then you're going to have to tell the whole truth,” which puzzles Lauren because that is what she wants to do. Kathy tells her daughter that she doesn't know the whole story, and Lauren looks puzzled. Kathy then breaks the news that the baby wasn't stillborn - she survived. Lauren looks shocked.
