Magic Moments > 2015 > Lou and Bailey's Departure Episode 7115

Written by Brooke Wilson, Directed by Gary Conway, Produced by Jason Herbison

Channel Eleven: 01/05/15, Channel 5: 15/05/15

Amber is terrified at the prospect of telling that Daniel she cheated on him with Josh... An angry Bailey impersonates a cop with Matt’s badge, then lashes out at his family... Lou suggests Bailey should move back to Queensland with him... Paige tells Tyler that she saw him checking out cars to steal, but he insists it’s just one job... Bailey steals the already stolen car that Joey left outside the garage for Tyler to work on... Paige tells Tyler that Bailey took the car... Michelle tells Tyler and Paige they have a week to get $8000 to compensate her, or else...

At Fitzgerald Motors, Paige is giving Tyler a hard time about his involvement in the stolen car operation. Tyler explains that he’s been working for Michelle and her boss, and he's been doing jobs for them ‘under the table’; when Paige enquires what new owner at the garage would think if he found out, Tyler admits that Stubbsy, the new garage owner, is merely a cover for Dennis Dimato. He warns that Michelle is a ‘serious player’, and he and Paige need to steal a car for her as recompense. Paige tells Tyler that this is all his mess, and she doesn't see why she needs to help. Tyler, not sure what to do, tells Paige that they will just have to go to the cops. Paige disagrees, but Tyler firmly states to Paige that it’s the only other option. Paige comments that Tyler has learnt a few things from his ‘psycho mates’. Tyler disagrees with this, telling her that he's not like them and pleads again for her to help him. Paige says to Tyler “I am not stealing a car. There has to be another way. Just tell me everything – right from the beginning.”

..

At the Turner house, Lou is telling Lauren about his plans to move back to Queensland. Lou explains that he’s been thinking about it for a while, since he wants to see more of Guy. Lauren says “But you will still visit us a couple of times a year?” “That is a promise,” is Lou’s reassuring answer. Lou then announces that he thinks it might help Bailey to go with him. Lauren objects, as Bailey needs her, but Lou disagrees, telling her that he is ‘out of control’ and proceeds to show her the letter Bailey opened, detailing the payout from Matt’s pension scheme. Lou explains that it was just another reminder for Bailey of the family’s loss, which is why he didn’t come home last night. Lou doesn’t tell Lauren about the car theft, but says to Lauren, “You don’t need to know the details, but we’ve got to get him out of here, before he does something really stupid. Lauren, the boy needs space to grieve. He’s got to go somewhere where he feels he doesn’t have to lash out, and up in Queensland he’ll have me and Kathy. Not to mention Guy and a lot of cousins.” Lauren warms to the idea and tells Lou that a couple of weeks away couldn’t hurt Bailey. Lou says to Lauren “Or longer, depending how he goes. Darling, I know this sounds drastic. But this is about what Bailey needs. So think about it, please – for his sake...”

In the kitchen at Harold’s store, Daniel is giving Amber a shoulder massage. She says that she feels tense, and Daniel advises Amber to share her concerns - she then admits that she got into a fight with Josh, as she saw him kissing Danni. Daniel’s appalled at Josh’s insensitivity, and wants to go and talk to him, but Amber tells Daniel to stay out of it, stating that they should forget about it and move on.

..

Back at the garage, Paige is in disbelief that Tyler is so deeply involved in Dimato’s car theft scheme. She asks if he stole another vehicle after scoping out Danni’s car on the day Matt died. He explains that he had to, as he was in Dimato’s debt after he gave back Imogen’s car. Paige replies angrily telling him that it doesn’t make it right, adding that she is so glad her sister lost interest in him. “What, like you did?” Tyler declares. Paige announces that she wants nothing to do with this, or him, ever again, and marches out. Tyler looks worried.

Back at number 32, Lauren expresses her reservations to Brad about Bailey leaving for Queensland, explaining that she feels like it’s her job to look after him while he’s grieving, and that even considering it makes her feel like a bad mum. Brad tells Lauren that he agrees with Lou – and would probably let Bailey go if he were in Lauren’s shoes. Lauren says to Brad, “Yeah, but the idea of him being so far away, it physically hurts. It’s bad enough with Mason, but Bailey, he’s my baby.” Brad reminds Lauren that Bailey is practically an adult; however, Lauren firmly states to Brad again that Bailey is her baby.

..

Daniel enters The Waterhole and sees Josh, so he confronts him about whether he’s seeing Danni. Josh tells Daniel that it’s none of his business, but Daniel, in an unusually aggressive mood, replies that it is his business when it’s upsetting his fiancée. Josh says to Daniel, “Amber. She has a name, or do you just like rubbing it in my face?” “This, coming from the person making out with the woman who killed her dad, in front of her,” is Daniel's sharp reply. Josh tells Daniel to leave him alone. Daniel, however, tells Josh that he won’t until he understands a few things, reminding Josh that he and Amber are together and they are going to have a baby together, so he is going to do whatever it takes to protect her. Josh admits to Daniel that he is not trying to hurt her; all he is trying to do is move on with his life. Daniel says to Josh, “Good. Go for it. But whatever you do, you keep it out of Amber’s face. Got it?” Daniel then leaves.

At number 32, Bailey comes to talk to Lauren about the idea of moving to Queensland, explaining to his mum that he just can’t be here anymore, everything reminds him of his dad, and all he wants to do is just to forget about it all for a while. Lauren’s concerned that if it doesn’t work, she won’t be there to look after him, but Bailey reassures her that he’ll have Lou, Kathy and Guy to help him through it. “Doesn’t help me, though, does it? But then it isn’t about me, is it?” Lauren says sadly to Bailey. Bailey admits that he hasn’t acted his normal self recently but leaving will help. Lauren agrees to let Bailey go and tells him that all she wants is to see him happy again. Bailey thanks his mum, they hug and Lauren wipes away her tears.

..

Later, Lauren is sitting on the back porch. Lou comes out and tells her she made the right decision - she says that she hopes so and adds that she’s okay with Lou going too, as long as he keeps visiting. Lou confirms he will and states that he wouldn’t have changed this last year of him living with them, and if ever she needs him, he’ll fly straight back here. Lou goes off to organise the plane tickets.

Back indoors, Bailey tells Amber and Paige that he’s going to live interstate. Amber is upset, telling Bailey that he’ll miss out on being an uncle. Bailey tells Amber that he’s struggling, and he needs this move. Amber tells Bailey that she doesn’t want him to go and goes to Paige for backup. Paige agrees with Amber that she doesn’t want him to leave but admits that she wants him to be OK again, and thinks a fresh start is needed. Amber is not convinced but Lauren, who has just come back inside, overhears and tells her that Bailey needs this. Amber admits defeat and says to Bailey, “I’m really gonna miss you,” then tearfully hugs him. Bailey tells Amber that he is going to miss her too, and Lauren rushes off to organise a send-off party, as Amber hugs Bailey again.

..

..

In the back garden, Lou is with Karl and Toadie. Lou thanks Toadie, who has spoken to the police and got them to drop the police impersonation charges against Bailey. Karl can’t believe that Lou is actually leaving, however Lou reminds Karl that he is a ‘citizen of the world’ and he’ll be back soon enough. “Yeah, but you’re leaving behind so many good friends,” Karl says to Lou. Toadie points to Susan, who’s just arriving and says, “Yeah – life-saving friends.” Lou laughs and tells Toadie to not remind him, and admits that he is just lucky that Susan was handy with a pen, “unlike her husband!” Sheila then shows up, having heard that Lou is leaving, and tells him that she has just popped in ‘to make sure he’s going!’ Lou then gives her a farewell gift – it’s a framed photo of him! Sheila takes one look at it and says, “Oh, I have just the spot for that! On the dartboard at The Waterhole.” Lou laughs and tells Sheila that she can hide it all she likes, but he knows she’s going to miss him. “Not if I aim properly!” Sheila declares. Lou says to Sheila, “You know, after all we’ve been through, I was sort of hoping for a little farewell gift from you, too.” “Oh! Well maybe I have got something for you,” Sheila replies and proceeds to grab Lou and kisses him on the lips! Lou looks flabbergasted!

Back indoors, Paige, Amber, Bailey and Daniel are in the kitchen preparing food. Bailey apologises to Daniel for the way he treated him recently. Daniel says that he didn’t take it personally, and tells Bailey that he loves him. “I love you too, man,” Bailey replies and they proceed to hug it out. Paige asks if Bailey’s sorted out a place at the school in Queensland – and mentions if anyone gives him trouble there, he can always give them a thump! Bailey reminds Paige that he’s only going to Queensland, not juvie! Amber jokes that he wouldn’t last a week. Josh turns up, and also gives Bailey a goodbye hug; he’s bought him a present, to help with his future astronaut training. Amber and Daniel look awkward at Josh’s presence, but Bailey insists he stay for a drink. Josh goes to take a seat. Paige picks up her phone, and finds she’s been sent a video. It’s CCTV footage from the garage, of Bailey stealing the car.

..

..

Paige heads straight to the garage and confronts Tyler, demanding to know why he gave Michelle her phone number. Tyler insists he didn’t, leading Paige to wonder how she got it. Paige shows Tyler the video, and they both look up uncertainly at the CCTV camera. Paige asks Tyler if she is watching them right now - and if she can hear them - Tyler tells Paige that it could be possible. Paige admits to Tyler that she doesn’t want to steal a car, but Tyler tells Paige that he knows how to get away with it, and that it’s only one job. Paige is sceptical, reminding Tyler that ‘one job’ was how he first got involved with the crooks. Tyler says, “Look – if we just do it, and be smart about it, Bailey will be fine.” Again Paige stresses that there’s got to be another way for them to get the money for Michelle. “Do you have eight grand in savings? Taking this car is the only option,” a worried Tyler says. Paige reminds Tyler that they’ll go to jail if they get caught.

Back at the Turner house, Josh, Daniel, Amber, Lauren, Susan, Karl, Lou, Sheila, Toadie and Bailey are all gathered for the farewell party. Susan decides to make a speech: “It has been my privilege to know Bailey for the last few years, and he’s always shown himself to be a kind, and intelligent and driven young man. And Lauren, I know how hard it is to see your babies leave home. But from the moment Bailey arrived on Ramsay Street, it was as though he’d always been here. So I have no doubt he’ll do brilliantly – whether he goes to Queensland, or hopefully, one day, the stars.” Karl chips in, “Now, Lou on the other hand...” Lou stops Karl and tells him that he does not want any farewell speeches as it’s not his ‘swansong’ yet. “Ooh, speaking of which, I’ve written a song for this occasion!” Karl says. Everyone groans, and Karl admits that he’s joking. Toadie then makes his own speech: “It’s fair to say that Lou is a man of many talents. You have been Erinsborough’s mayor, local radio DJ, used car salesman, philanthropist…” and Karl jokes that he has tried flogging anything to his friends and neighbours. Toadie agrees and reminds Lou of the padded underwear! Lou laughs and admits that the design was ahead of its time. Karl then reminds Lou of the Aquatic-themed toilet seats. The list continues, and Karl comments that they’ll miss the money-making schemes as much as they’ll miss Lou himself. Lou says, “Oh, come on, you’re making me blush. Please continue.” Karl continues, “It’ll be my pleasure. You’re one of a kind, Lou. You’re always there with a joke or a kind word, lending a hand. I’m very proud to count you among my dearest friends”. Lou thanks Karl, Lauren then adds that Lou has been an amazing support to her and the kids through a difficult time. Lou hugs and kisses her. “We’re gonna miss you, sunshine!” Toadie announces and imitates Lou’s trademark laugh, and raises a toast to Bailey and Lou. Lou then does the laugh himself!

..

..

On Ramsay Street, the Turner family are loading up a taxi, as Paige arrives in time to say goodbye. Bailey tells Paige that he thought she was ditching him. “After all the effort I put into straightening you out? I don’t think so,” Paige declares. They hug, and Bailey thanks her. Lauren reminds Bailey that it gets cold and checks that he's packed something warm. Bailey confirms to his mum that he has. Lauren then proceeds to ask Bailey if he has packed enough underwear, to which Bailey laughs and confirms he has, and she tells him that she's put some snacks in his bag, in case he gets hungry. Bailey reminds his mum that they provide snacks on the plane. “Never look a gift-horse in the mouth, sunshine,” Lou says to his grandson. Lauren hugs Bailey sadly, and then he gets a double hug from Amber and Paige. The girls tell Bailey that they love him and Bailey tells them that he loves them too. Lou hugs Lauren, and tells her to call if ever she needs him. Lou reminds Lauren that he will be back - she tells him that he better be! Lou and Bailey go to get into the taxi. “Come on Bailey, time to hit the road. Adventure calls,” says Lou. As the taxi drives away, Amber, Paige and Lauren wave sadly. Lauren says to Amber and Paige, “Looks like it’s just us three girls now, hey?” They all put arms around one another as they watch the taxi go.

Inside number 32, Daniel and Amber are clearing up, and Amber’s gone quiet. Daniel tells her he got his results back from the spine and muscular atrophy gene test and that it’s all clear, so the baby won’t be affected. Amber doesn’t really react, and when quizzed, she tells Daniel that Bailey’s departure is really getting to her. Amber tells Daniel that everything is changing, so he reassures her by promising her that change can be good and things will get better. Daniel starts discussing the baby again and how happy it’s made him, and he suggests they set a new date for their wedding to make things official. However, Amber doesn’t look too thrilled at the idea, but insists she wants to get married. Just then Amber begins to tell Daniel what is troubling her but can’t get her words out. Daniel encourages Amber to tell him to which Amber firstly tells Daniel that she doesn’t deserve him, and he asks why she would say something like that. Amber then proceeds to say to Daniel, “Because… this baby might be Josh’s.” Daniel looks astounded.
