Eli Clarke

Eli was a distant ancestor of Desmond Clarke and the instigator of the legendary Clarke curse. After an indiscretion with a squire’s daughter, Eli Clarke was deported to Australia, and as he left the dock, the squire yelled down a curse upon him and all his male descendants to follow. After a long history of bad luck with women, including four failed engagements, Des’s first wedding attempt to Daphne Lawrence crumbled when the bridal party was carjacked. His mother Eileen was quick to point to the Clarke curse as the cause. Des himself dismissed the story as rubbish.
