Following the death of Sebastian Metcalfe, Leo Tanaka, the husband of Seb's best friend Krista, was charged with murder. After being released on bail, he awaited his trial and grew more and more concerned that he was going to end up in prison for something he didn't do. When Seb's father, Stan, started calling Krista, she ignored it, put off calling him back and focused her efforts on helping a despondent Leo. However, Krista was shocked as she realised that Stan was actually in Erinsborough and he soon confronted her about why she was refusing to talk to him. As Leo tried to defend her, Stan then turned on him, warning him that he was going to make his life hell for what he'd done to Sebastian. This confrontation, coupled with the news that a key expert witness would no longer be testifying in Leo's favour in court, led Leo to make the decision to flee town with his daughter, Abigail.
