Although her husband had his reservations about their daughter, Lorraine, marrying Des Clarke, Mrs Kingham was happy to support her as the big day approached. However, the night before the wedding, Lorraine suddenly realised that she didn’t truly love Des and couldn’t enter into the marriage knowing that. So, she and her parents went to Des’ place in Ramsay Street to break the news. However, once there, they were surprised to find Daphne Lawrence, the stripper from Des’ bucks’ night, emerging from the bedroom. Mr Kingham was shocked, as Daphne had previously been a receptionist at the firm he worked for and had left amidst accusations of being sexually harassed. Lorraine was equally shocked, believing that Des had slept with Daphne, when in fact she was simply looking for a watch that she’d lost the night before. Mrs Kingham, however, knew what her husband was like and remained behind as he and Lorraine walked out. She apologised to Daphne for her husband’s behaviour and told Des that he would have been very good for Lorraine.
