After finding a side hustle as a male escort to get himself out of debt, Taye Obasi quickly found that his secret life was colliding with his day job as the manager of the piano bar at Lassiters Hotel. After almost being caught out with hotel guest Sylvie the week before, Taye was then shocked to find out that his newest client, Monica Spencer, was married to Richard, the bar's pianist. When Monica arrived to give her husband his sheet music, she too was shocked as she came face to face with the escort she'd hired. She waited at the bar until Richard went on his break, then tried to explain things to Taye, telling him how she wasn't satisfied in her marriage and that he wasn't the first escort she'd been with. Unfortunately, Richard walked back in and overheard the last part of their conversation, leaving Taye to try and fix the damage that had been done. He approached Richard and suggested that he needed to spend less time focused on his piano playing and more time focused on his wife's needs in the bedroom. Richard took the, not-too-subtle, hint and, the next day, Taye was pleased to see Richard and Monica walking through the Lassiters complex arm in arm, looking very happy together.

Later in the year, Monica was surprised to received a message from Taye, asking to meet up for an amazing opportunity. Intrigued, she turned up to find that two of this other former clients, Alicia and Cassie, were also there and that Taye was asking them to invest in his new skincare line, SATAYE. Whilst Alicia and Cassie were disappointed, having hoped that Taye was getting back into escorting, and promptly left, Monica, who was still grateful to Taye for saving her marriage, agreed to listen. Later that day, she contacted Taye and offered to invest the full $15,000 he was asking for.

Unfortunately, the face mask business soon ended in disaster when a preservative that had been added during the manufacturing process caused a serious reaction on the skin, with Vera Punt showing up at a Lassiters make-up show with a bright red face and blaming Taye in front of everyone. After losing his job over the whole debacle, Taye was desperate to find a solution to fix things, deciding not to tell Monica until he had a plan in place. However, Monica soon found out what had happened and confronted Taye, demanding her money back. As he looked around for a new job, Monica asked to meet him again, this time suggesting that he could repay the debt by sleeping with her, explaining that Richard still wasn't satisfying her needs. Taye turned her down, telling her that he'd moved on from escorting, so she told him that she expected him to pay her back the full $15,000.

As Taye managed to score bar work at the V Bar, he hoped to be able to raise some extra cash by holding an event there. Unfortunately, it didn't prove to be the success that he'd hoped and, when Monica asked to meet him again, he was forced to tell her that he had no money to give her. She again suggested that he could sleep with her to cover the debt and, although he was slightly slower to turn her down this time, he soon explained that he had a girlfriend and he couldn't do that to her.

When Monica next ran into Taye at the Waterhole, she told him that she was meeting a friend, but would be free in an hour if he wanted to spend some time with her. Fearing that she was never going to leave him alone, Taye went inside the bar when she came back, leaving Monica with his housemate, Max Ramsay. Struggling with his own recent relationship dramas, Max suggested that he and Monica could get to know each other better and he could take Taye's place in the agreement and sleep with her. Horrified by the idea, Monica ended up chatting to Max all evening and they both opened up about their problems, leading her to the realisation that she'd behaved inappropriately with Taye. She then sent him an apology and told him that they could come up with a payment plan and that he could take as long as he needed to repay his debt.
