Mother to young Bernie and wife to headstrong Bob, Jan Sutton found herself caught in the middle when neighbour Jim Robinson became concerned about Bernie’s safety on his new BMX bike. When Jim knocked Bernie off his bike, but the boy was unharmed, a concerned Jim tried to convince Bob and Jan that it was not safe for the young lad to be riding into the traffic like that. Jan sided with her husband, however, as he told Jim that it was really none of his business. Soon after, Jan was left devastated when Bernie was knocked down and killed on the main road and, as they came to terms with their grief, she and Bob moved out of Ramsay Street.
