Dan Bennett 2007-2008
Roles: Network Drama Executive

Dan Bennett was born in 1981 and first worked on Home and Away in 2002 after gaining some work experience part-time whilst completing a university degree. He worked his way up to the top job, and was awarded the position of Script Producer in 2005. Under him, the series’ ratings soared and it soon became the most popular Australian drama series on television. His departure from the series occurred in 2006, with rumours rife that he had been poached by the network executives at Network Ten to turn Neighbours around after a gradual decline in the soap’s ratings.

He told The Daily Telegraph in March 2007, “Storylines are going to be refocused on what has quintessentially been at the heart of Neighbours' relationships and family dynamics. There can be the occasional bomb blast – no soap is complete without it – but at the end of the day, Neighbours began as a show about friends and families living on astreet and all the problems people face every day. And that’s what we’ll be heading back to.” He remained with the series until May 2008, and in the time that he was in charge, he oversaw the introduction of the Parker family as well as the long-awaited returns of Libby Kennedy and Lyn Scully.

He then went to work on the Seven drama, Out of the Blue in 2008. After the cancellation of Out of the Blue, he was hired as the Script Producer of Winners and Losers in 2011, and in 2014, stepped into the top job of Script Executive after Bevan Lee stepped down from the position after almost 20 years. He moved over to Home and Away again and has been there since June 2015. In early 2016, he announced that he has quit Home and Away and is planning on travelling the world, but returned again later in the year.
