Fielding Mansion - Living Room: Shane walks a stunned Linda into the house - he takes her jacket and asks if he can get her anything. She shakes her head, and says that she can't believe he's gone. She admits that she knew it would happen one day, but it still didn't prepare her for this, particularly as he seemed to be getting better, and the doctors said he could come home soon. She begins to cry, and Shane goes to comfort her, but then the phone rings. He takes a couple of calls, telling them that Mrs Fielding is unavailable at the moment, and then tells her that she should get some rest, and he'll take care of everything else.

No 26 - Kitchen/Lounge/Exterior: Lucy arrives home from school and tells Helen about her day - a boy tried to kiss her, but she kicked him in the shins. She then shows Helen some binoculars that were lent to her by the teacher - she says that she has to do a 'look and listen' project. She then proceeds to watch Helen and commentate on everything she's doing, before Helen sends her off to watch something else - with Lucy commenting that Helen's actions are 'typical of the older generation'. Lucy looks out of a front window and spots a dog peeing on Mrs Allen's rose bush, then she sees Daphne walking up to the house, and opens the front door to greet her. She asks Daphne if she can observe her, but Daphne suggests that she come over and observe Des instead. Daphne sits down for coffee with Helen, complaining about how much she spent at the supermarket. Lucy tells her about the project, and then tells Daphne about another project she's doing - on Japan. Daphne surprises Helen when she says that she's been to Japan, and that she has some pictures, and maybe a kimono, that she can give to Lucy if she comes over after school the next day. A grateful Lucy runs off outside, and Daphne asks Helen how Maria is - before long, the conversation turns to Shane, and Daphne admits her jealousy over him dating Terry.

Fielding Mansion - Living Room: Shane has made himself a sandwich, and is just sitting down to eat it when Linda wanders in. He tells her it's 9.30 and she says that he should have gone home - his family will probably be worried. He offers her a sandwich and goes to make her a coffee.

No 24 - Lounge: Max and Maria are going through the business accounts, and Max complains about Shane not being home yet, and Mrs Fielding not letting him keep decent hours. Maria is just grateful that he has a job, after everything he's been through.

Fielding Mansion - Living Room: Linda tells Shane that she didn't get much sleep - her mind kept racing. She tells Shane that Dan was the most wonderful man she's ever known, and her voice starts to crack, so Shane tells her that she doesn't need to talk if it upsets her, but she says that she wants to. She tells Shane that they'd been married for ten years, but she knew that people talked about her behind her back, and said that she'd only married him for his money. She explains that Dan has planned to retire at 60, so they could move up north, and that the next day would have been his 60th birthday, which seems so unfair, as he'd always worked so hard. She now thinks that it all seems like such a waste, but she has to keep going, for Dan. She tells Shane about the accident - an 18-year-old kid hit them in his car, leaving Dan crippled. She decides that she's said enough, and goes to bed, telling Shane to let himself out. He asks if there's anyone who can stay, but she shakes her head and admits that the big house has never felt lonely, until now. After she goes, Shane calls home, telling Danny to pass the message on that he'll be staying the night at Mrs Fielding's place.

No 24 - Lounge: Danny tells Max and Maria that Shane is staying the night at Mrs Fielding's house. Max is appalled.

No 24 - Lounge: Max starts ranting about Mrs Fielding getting her claws into Shane, and Danny quickly heads off to bed. Max then starts complaining about Shane getting involved with married women - Maria is surprised to hear that Terry is married, and that Shane wasn't that bothered when Max told him. Maria says that she'll 'go across' and talk to Terry in the morning - Max is horrified to then learn that Terry has moved in with Des.

Fielding Mansion - Living Room: The next morning, Linda finds Shane asleep under a blanket on the sofa. She wakes him, and he tells her that he had to stay, mainly because he needed to apologise to her, about listening to all the rumours and people calling her 'superbitch'. He's surprised that she already knew about her nickname - but she says that she probably deserved it - she focused on running the business, not on making people like her. She breaks the news that she'd decided to sell the business, as without Dan, it means nothing to her. She says that she's going to move to the house up north - she's not sure whether she'll be happy, but at least she'll be free of the rat race.

No 24 - Kitchen: Danny thinks that Shane must be on triple time by now. Maria just wants him to come home, but doesn't believe that anything untoward is going on; she just suspects that Mrs Fielding threw a party and needed Shane to drive people home. Danny points out that Max has different ideas, but Maria doesn't want to hear about that, and sends Danny off to school.

Fielding Mansion - Living Room: Shane prepares to leave, and Linda tells him that he probably won't see her again. He says that Dan was a very lucky man, for having a wife like her, and she kisses him on the cheek.

No 26: Helen watches from the kitchen, as Lucy continues to observe the street with her binoculars. Lucy tricks Helen into coming and looking, by claiming that there's a naked man walking down the street. When Lucy then spots Gordon Miller outside in his car, with a gun, Helen doesn't believe what Lucy is telling her. Lucy insists, and drags Helen out of the kitchen.

Ramsay Street: Gordon Miller gets out of his car, and walks over to number 28.

No 26 - Lounge: Lucy drags Helen to the window, but the man is gone. Helen decides to take binoculars and sends Lucy off to play with Basil but, once she's gone, Helen seems a little more concerned and looks outside again.

No 26 - Back Garden: Lucy puts Basil on her lead, and wanders off towards the street, bouncing a ball.

No 28 - Back Garden: Miller picks the locks and goes in through the back door.

No 26 - Back Garden: Lucy accidentally bounces the ball too hard, and it goes over the fence.

No 28 - Back Garden: Lucy goes in through the gate, looking for the ball. When she sees the door open, she wanders into the house.

No 28: Miller hears Lucy calling out for Daphne, so he hides behind the screen by the front door. Lucy looks around, then goes to try the bedrooms, and Miller moves his hiding place to behind the sofa, knocking over an ornament in the process. Lucy runs out, thinking Basil caused the accident, and tidies up, before taking the dog outside to be tied up. Meanwhile, Miller is now hiding under the dining table, and Daphne returns home, wondering how Lucy got in. Lucy explains that the back door was open, and Daphne thinks that Terry must have forgotten to lock it. She then starts looking for the photos of Japan for Lucy, unaware that Miller is only inches away, holding a gun.
