The manager of a clothes store on Chapel Street, Hayley Coulter met mechanic Lucas Fitzgerald at Charlie's bar, when they got chatting about cars. When Lucas invited Hayley back to his place, little did she realise what she was getting herself into - Lucas was sharing his home with Vanessa, a previous one-night-stand who had fallen pregnant. Vanessa was now growing close to neighbour Rhys Lawson, but there was little love lost between Lucas and Rhys, and the foursome ended up sharing an awkward evening, with Rhys and Lucas trading insults, and Hayley surprised to learn that Vanessa was having Lucas' baby. As the atmosphere failed to improve, Hayley quickly decided to make her excuses and leave, telling Lucas to get in touch when he'd sorted out his living arrangements.
