Pam Hammond 1985
Occupation: Social Welfare Officer

When Mrs Forbes lost her husband, she found herself in danger of losing her farm, and her livelihood, too. When she agreed to sell the farm to pay off debts, Mrs Forbes received a visit from Pam Hammond, a social welfare officer, there to discuss the old lady's future once she left her home and business behind. Worried that she'd be placed in a home, Mrs Forbes lied that Danny Ramsay and Scott Robinson, a couple of runaways who'd been helping her out, were her nephews and were going to look after her. Pam was wary of this story, particularly when the boys came into the kitchen and addressed their 'aunt' as Mrs Forbes. She persisted, telling Mrs Forbes that there could be a room in a hostel in Ballyvale for her and that her pension would cover the costs, before leaving, giving them all a chance to think things over for a day or two. After becoming confused, and threatening Scott and Danny with a shotgun, Mrs Forbes realised that perhaps the hostel was the best place for her. Scott's father Jim and grandmother Helen were contacted and rushed to the farm, relieved to have finally found the missing boy, and they proceeded to help Mrs Forbes organise her things. Pam then returned and explained that the room at the hostel was ready and, although it was an hour away, it was the nearest available place - and besides, Mr and Mrs Forbes had made few friends during their time in the local area.
