When his girlfriend, Kayla Thomas, vanished one day, little did Anthony Johnson realise that she’d left because she was carrying his baby. Some months later, after Kayla had given birth to baby Ashley and dumped her on prospective adoptive parents Max and Steph Hoyland, she returned to Anthony and things picked up where they’d left off. Soon after Kayla’s return, the Hoyland family tracked her down to Anthony’s parents’ place. Kayla had told Steph and Max that Anthony had abandoned her in the wake of her pregnancy, so they were shocked to find out that Anthony actually had no idea about the baby at all. Kayla was forced to tell Anthony the truth, and was pleasantly surprised as he immediately accepted Ashley as his daughter and promised to look after both mother and daughter. Anthony thanked Max and Steph, as well as Max’s son, Boyd, for looking after Kayla and Ashley and the Hoylands left the young family to manage as best they could.
