After accepting a job with the Australian Embassy in Stockholm, Liz Conway left teenage daughter Elly in the care of her sister Susan and headed off to Europe. There, Liz found herself a new man named Lars and, some months later, when Liz returned to Australia for a visit, her family were shocked to learn that she was pregnant. Though they had a difficult relationship, and Liz was far from convinced that Lars would want a teenage girl in his life, Elly and Liz managed to pack things up and headed back to Sweden together.
