After Lou Carpenter agreed to help fund a touring production of Hello Dolly, that his new wife Trixie Tucker would be appearing in, they headed off to Asia. Whilst in Hong Kong, Lou started talking about the money they would make and his idea to buy a property in Hong Kong so he could visit his daughter Ling Mai more often, but Trixie was concerned about the extremely low ticket sales, and lied to Lou about performing when shows had been cancelled. When the entire production was scrapped, Trixie felt terrible about effectively bankrupting Lou, and disappeared into the night, leaving him to return to Erinsborough, alone and heartbroken.
