Roger Bannon may have been a successful engineering executive, but he was a reprehensible human being.

In the early 1960s Bannon was employing a young engineering graduate called Jim Robinson. Their working relationship was so good that Jim, Roger, and their two wives, Anne and Joyce respectively, all became close friends. Sadly this friendship was not to last. While Jim was away on business one night, Roger propositioned Anne, yet after she had refused his advances, he raped her. In 1964 Julie was born as a result of that rape. Jim had initially been so upset by the attack, he had moved out of the family home, but he soon made up with Anne and promised to raise the baby as his own. The couple kept this secret between them and the truth only arose after they had both passed away.

By that time, Roger Bannon had moved to Queensland with Joyce and his son Roger. When Jim Robinson died and the truth of Julie‘s parentage was discovered, she wanted to know what had really happened, so went in search of Roger in 1993. But she was too late as by that time he had also died. The answers Julie had been looking for were unwanted; Joyce Bannon told her that Roger was a womaniser and that he had raped Anne.
