After lying to her ex-boyfriend Lucas that she'd found herself a new man, Elle Robinson quickly snared one of the delivery men who arrived at her store, Mark Chaplin. Though slightly surprised, Mark agreed to go on a date with her that evening, where she tried to outdo Lucas and his new girlfriend, Lisa by having the most fun. She then left with Mark, much to Lucas' horror, and he ended his date with Lisa and followed them back. At Elle's place, she pushed Mark away as he tried to kiss her, and as he went upstairs to use the bathroom, Elle heard Lucas' bike outside. She waited by the door for him to knock, but he couldn't bring himself to do it. Disappointed, Elle ended up spending the night in the spare room, as Mark fell asleep on her bed, and the next morning, he mistook her father, Paul for her housemate, before Elle came downstairs and corrected him. Later that day, Mark sent flowers to Elle but she wasn't too thrilled about receiving them, until she had another run-in with Lucas, and ended up calling Mark to arrange another date. When Lucas' sister-in-law Libby suffered a miscarriage, Elle insisted on stopping by the garage during a date with Mark, to check up on him. As Elle comforted Lucas, he leaned in to kiss her and Mark, watching from the car, rushed over to intervene. But, realising that Elle's feelings for Lucas weren't going to go away, as she spent their entire lunch date talking about him, Mark ended the relationship.
