Having recently split from his wife Miranda, Steve Parker was surprised one day when Lisa, the young, blonde temp secretary at the nearby law practice, approached him in Charlie's bar for a chat. As he bought her a drink and they got talking, she mentioned that she preferred men who were older than her and confident in themselves, and he was starting to think that things weren't so bad after all, but as he headed off into the toilets to psyche himself up, he was upset to return and find that Lisa's boyfriend, Steve's mate Lucas Fitzgerald, had arrived. As the pair went off to sit together, Steve was left feeling foolish.

Meanwhile, Lucas and Lisa's new relationship was also provoking jealousy from Lucas' ex-girlfriend, Elle. As she heard about their rock climbing date, Elle claimed that she'd been seeing someone too, later grabbing a delivery guy, Mark at the store and asking him out. That evening, the two couples attended a gig at the bar, but Lucas could barely take his eyes of Elle and her new man, ultimately turning down Lisa's invitation back to her place, telling her he had an early start.
