When Danny Ramsay and Scott Robinson ran away from home, with Scott convinced that he was in serious trouble after being wrongly accused of mugging neighbour Carol Brown, they ended up working on a farm owned by Mrs Forbes. Although she called Scott's father Jim to confirm that the boys were alive and well, she didn't say who she was or where they were, and the police continued to search for the missing boys, whose possessions had all been stolen when they'd hitched a ride. Eventually, a couple of weeks later, Detective Conway got in touch with Jim, and Danny's mother Maria, and explained that a girl had been found carrying Scott's wallet, which she claimed had been given to her by a couple of surfers, who had been boasting about giving the two boys a lift, then disappearing with their bags, bikes and money. That small piece of evidence was all they had to go on for another few days, until Scott and Danny learnt that Mrs Forbes was selling the farm, and they decided that they'd have to call home for help.
