After becoming frustrated with Facebook friend requests from spammers, Paige Smith decided to try sending a message to one of them, and ended up engaged in conversation with a man named Bryson. After the two had been chatting for a while, Paige was horrified when she found out that a hacker had cleared out the bank account where she, along with her half-siblings Bailey and Amber, had been storing money from the sale of 32 Ramsay Street. The money had been intended to go back to Paige's mum Lauren and stepfather Matt, but its disappearance left the family in dire financial straits. When Matt found out about Paige's online friendship, her laptop was checked and a key logging programme was found, with Paige admitting that she had downloaded some song lyrics which had been sent to her by Bryson.

Not willing to let Bryson get away with it, Paige invited him to Erinsborough, concerning her family. Paige waited, but Bryson chickened out of their meeting, turning up later and apologising. Paige immediately accused a shocked Bryson of stealing her family's money, which he denied and after some checks at the police station, it was revealed that he was in the clear. Bailey then admitted that he'd been using Paige's laptop to chat to a girl in Russia, and had downloaded some photos from her. With the truth finally revealed, Paige apologised to Bryson, who was still hurt, but understood Paige's initial anger. As the pair chatted, they found that they got on really well, and he ended up trying to kiss her. She quickly pulled away, and after looking for advice from Amber and Imogen, she realised that she felt guilty because she wasn't physically attracted to Bryson. She then met with him and asked him to stay in Erinsborough a little longer, but dashed his hopes of a relationship, and Paige was left surprised when Bryson told her that he already had enough friends, and if she wasn't interested in anything more than that, then it was best if he returned home and they stopped chatting to each other.
